For months now, Camp Workroom Social instructor Diana Rodgers and I have been building a new virtual course called Patchwork and Quilting for Garment Sewing, and I'm so excited to tell you all about it!
If you've ever wanted to…
- design your own patchwork using quilting patterns,
- make quilted textiles,
- and sew a garment out of those quilted textiles,
we've got just the thing for you!
Patchwork and Quilting for Garment Sewing is a comprehensive virtual course taught in 2 sections. Students can enroll in the full course, or in the sections individually.
In Section 1: Creating Patchwork and Quilted Textiles, you'll…
- Learn to choose the right fabrics, battings, and backings for your quilted garment.
- Explore basic color theory to design patchwork (using quilting patterns) in your personal style.
- Learn essential patchwork and quilting techniques like piecing, matching corners, nesting seams, and quilting on your home sewing machine.
- Make your own custom patchwork and quilted textiles!
In Section 2: Sewing a Garment from Quilted Textiles, you’ll learn how to…
- Cut and prepare your quilted textiles for garment construction.
- Manage the bulk of quilted fabrics, and sew elements including darts, welt pockets, patch pockets, sleeves, and collars.
- Finish your garment beautifully with custom binding and closures.
Our official class project (the project we'll use for instruction and demonstrations) is the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio (Bust 32–58”; Bust 81.2–147.3 cm). Students are welcome to create a different garment if they wish, but our class instruction will focus specifically on the Tamarack.
Check out the full course description and schedule by clicking the button below. Registration for our Summer 2024 cohort closes on Friday, May 31, 2024 or when it sells out, whichever happens first.
