About Biona from Jean, the artist
I’ve always loved to draw yet I never considered myself an artist until recently. Even though I thought my art wasn’t good enough, I still drew throughout my life. For me, it was a way to imagine something new. Something playful.
I draw for feeling, not for realistic accuracy, and I love drawing things that make me happy. When I designed my collection Biona (which was the street I lived on in San Diego when I designed it), I knew I wanted it to be floral and bold with rich colors.
If you love color, I hope you’ll find a design in the collection to sew into to something you’ll love to wear. And if you love color, but you’re not comfortable wearing head-to-toe print yet, maybe try making something small like a scarf. I love that you can order a 1/4 yard at a time—low-risk stakes if you ask me.
I designed the prints in Biona to work creatively paired in the same garment or outfit. From complementary colors across the line, to the 2 different scale options you get in Flower Picnic and Flower Picnic Snack Size, I want to inspire sewists to play with mixing prints.
Biona is full of play, and I hope you’ll feel confident, happy, and bold wearing your Biona creations sewn for your unique, special, one-of-a-kind body.
