Class Description

Anyone can sew their own clothes! It just takes a little imagination, some instruction, and practice.

Bring your muslin in for a hands-on fitting by a professional patternmaker, and learn the pattern adjustments needed to make your garment fit just right.

Just like ready-to-wear, sewing patterns don’t fit everyone straight out of the envelope. Learning which adjustments you need for a particular garment and how to make those changes to your sewing pattern are invaluable skills for any sewist. It’s empowering to make clothes that fit your body, instead of the other way around.

We believe there is no one way a garment should fit you. It’s your body and your clothes, and we are here to help you fit your projects to suit your personal preference. In our Alter Your Fit Master Class, our professional patternmakers fit the garment you bring to your body, and demonstrate how to transfer adjustments you need to your paper sewing pattern. Fittings are done in our studio, and every student in this group class gets to watch their classmates fittings. This helps reinforce the techniques taught in the class.

Students in this class are required to bring one garment for the fitting. Garments must be pinned or seamed in muslin form, and garments may be cut or ripped during the fitting process. Both casual and formal wear are appropriate for this class. Swimwear, intimates, bras, etc. are not discussed in this class.

Students are also required to bring the garment’s paper sewing pattern and written sewing instructions.

To get a garment to fit just right, multiple fittings are required, and each fabrication can produce different fitting results. This Master Class is designed to give you the tools you need to explore your own fitting methods at home.

All Workroom Social classes are both fun and productive, instead of just one or the other. We encourage anyone who is interested in sewing clothes to take a class with us, whether you are strictly a hobbyist or interested in learning clothing construction skills to bring your original fashion designs to life.

Don’t let a company control what you wear. Own your style and your clothes by making them yourself.

At Workroom Social, we specialize in teaching adults how to sew clothes that fit both their individual styles, and also their unique body shapes and sizes.

Our sewing classes are designed for adults to learn in a warm and non-competitive environment. Perfection is never our goal; rather, students should expect that over time their skills will improve practice. Our team of professional designers and sewists make garment sewing approachable, and it’s our goal to provide students with the confidence and the knowledge you need to continue practicing sewing at home.

Through sewing we build communities, stimulate creativity, and help improve women’s self-esteem and confidence by empowering them to sew the clothes they want to wear.
