Couture Hand Sewing Skills

I got so much out of this intensive. I think it should be required before taking the other intensives. When I talked about it to other attendees, they mentioned that they didn't do couture sewing not realizing it was so much more than that. It gave me a lot of confidence and pride in hand sewing when before it was a chore. Brooks Ann loves it so much and that really shines in the class.

Class Description

Anyone can sew their own clothes! It just takes a little imagination, some instruction, and practice.

Learn the fundamentals and benefits of hand sewing from custom wedding dressmaker Brooks Ann Camper. Students in our Couture Hand Sewing Skills Sewing Intensive practice and get comfortable with a wide variety of temporary and permanent hand stitching techniques. See real examples of techniques used in clothing construction, while creating a useful resource notebook full of samples to reference for all your future projects.

This course is perfect for students who want to learn couture techniques for fine sewing, who want to learn strategies to elevate their current sewing skillset to get better results out of their garment sewing at home, or who want to improve their hand sewing skills.

As part of our Learn to Sew classes, sewing instruction is taught with an emphasis on key industry skills and techniques to create garments that look well-made. All of our sewing classes are both fun and productive, instead of just one or the other. We encourage anyone who is interested in sewing clothes to join us for our sewing classes, whether you are strictly a hobbyist or interested in learning clothing construction skills to bring your original fashion designs to life.

My favorite part of the class was having the samples to bring back home, the pace, and the friendly vibe.

Our Belief in the Power of Sewing

Through sewing we build communities, stimulate creativity, and help improve women’s self-esteem and confidence by empowering them to sew the clothes they want to wear.

We work hard every day to promote a sense of accomplishment in our students and customers by reminding them of their abilities. Together we learn from each #sewingfail and celebrate every #sewingwin, no matter how small.

We use our shared passion for sewing to connect with those we might not meet otherwise, and we create opportunities for our students to develop relationships that go far beyond sewing itself.

About the Instructor

Brooks Ann first learned to sew as an adult working in professional costume workshops. After an internship at Yale School of Drama, and a Master's Degree in Costume Construction from UNC, she moved to NYC where she worked as a Broadway milliner for productions such as Wicked and Mama Mia!, and sewing for celebrities from the Muppets to the Rockettes.

When she left New York and started her own business as a custom wedding dressmaker and designer, she began blogging the process as each one-of-a-kind dress was created. She realized that she was getting as much interest from "sewing people" as she was "brides" and started teaching her unique methods of custom sewing both in-person and online. She absolutely loves sharing her passion with kindred spirits!
