I don’t know about you, but when I am working in the studio, I like to have background noise. Sewing in silence just doesn’t do it for me! Sometimes it’s a podcast, sometimes it’s bad television re-runs, and sometimes it’s music.

At times when I really need to concentrate, I can’t listen to talking or singing. The words just seem to infiltrate my mind, and I can’t totally focus on what I’m doing. Does that ever happen to you?

Today I wanted to share with you my go-to playlist that is perfect for those intense sessions of focus (wait, how do I sew a single welt pocket again?). It’s a mix of instrumental gypsy jazz and the like that I call “My Parisian Sewing Studio.” It’s soothing and inspiring and fun all at the same time, and when I listen to it, I feel like I’m living in the middle of France, just sewing away in the sunshine.

Take a listen and tell me what you think! What do you like to listen to when you’re sewing?

YES i have been waiting for you to share this since i first saw it in your studio 🙂

  • I find that when I’m really focusing, I’m happy to sew in silence! It feels very meditative. I’ll usually start with a podcast (my hands-down favorite is To The Best of Our Knowledge) and then keep sewing once it ends. Thanks for sharing your mix!

    • I like To the Best of Our Knowledge too! I think my fav is probably Radio Lab, though. Those guys crack me up!

  • listening to this now and of course I love it 🙂

    • I’m so glad you do! I’m so jealous of your connection to France. I’ve only been to Paris once and just loved it. Can’t wait to go again sometime soon I hope!

This is such a cute idea! I have to admit a lot of times I sew in silence not even realizing it, but I do listen to Pandora (anywhere from Frank Sinatra to Motown) or have a movie or TV show I’ve already seen a few times playing in the background.

  • Ahhh, how great! Thanks for sharing! I like to listen to music, but I get bored of mine so I often listen to standup comedy when I’m sewing. The talking doesn’t bother me- since I grew up in a huge family, I’m really good at tuning out talking if I need to focus! 🙂

I live in the middle of France! And I have just spent an hour knitting in the garden after work and enjoying the sunshine. Come and sew with me!!
